Richard "Crazy Legs" Colón of the world renowned Rock Steady Crew is perhaps Hip-Hop's best known B-Boy. Appearing in the seminal Hip-Hop films Wild Style, Beat Street, Style Wars, and countless early documentaries and magazine profiles documenting Hip-Hop, Legs as he is affectionately called has partnered with publisher Rizzoli for Rock Steady for Life.

A beautifully done high end coffee table book full of vintage never before seen images, Rock Steady for Life features Crazy Legs recounting of the impact of Hip-Hop's most influential B-Boy crew whose members included Frosty Freeze, Ken Swift, Devious Doze, Baby Love, Kuriaki, Mr. Freeze and more.

"I hope to accomplish the idea of telling a fuller story about Rock Steady Crew without forgetting that it wasn’t just about the people on the front lines of the battle. These images also serve as receipts."

In an exclusive with The Foundation, Legs explained that Rizzoli contacted him to discuss the possibility of a book on the art of B-Boying. "Ian Luna of Rizzoli reached out to me, and he mentioned that there had never been a major book which allowed a B-Boy or B-Girl to tell a story from their perspective," he says.

According to Colón, part of the idea of the 256 page book is to expand the narrative of the visuals of photographers who didn't get the same exposure for taking photos at the same time as Martha Cooper. "I sourced everything," he explains. "Much of it is from my personal archives. The pictures from the event in California [Industry City at the rollerskating rink Skate Country] are the first images of any curated Hip-Hop event with all of the elements represented."

Regarding the Rock Steady Crew, Crazy Legs says "I can only hope that we serve as an example of what people can accomplish when born into a situation that would dictate survival." He continues,"We had the opportunity to travel the world when we never set out to do that and found ourselves living like some lower level rock stars.. I never really like to think about legacy because no matter what anyone does, your legacy will be determined by those who survive you and those who have an opinion."

Rock Steady for Life has an expected release date of September 22, 2026.
